Introduction

I was known as kimden in the game of SuperTuxKart. I played the game, enjoyed it, and made Frankfurt STK servers (FF) and a lot of cool things. That, of course, includes collaborations, as I was not enjoying alone.

However, I left the game and shut down the servers. You can find out why in this video.

This page is the public archive for many things related to FF servers during their service between November 2019 and March 2026: competition results, record tables, and other stuff — and related to myself, too.

Note about what's excluded

Certain things that were present on this page before are no longer relevant and thus removed to save space and time, and to not list outdated info. That includes future plans, promotions, dynamic content, and public downloads.

For certain events and activities described here, there are sequels in the actual STK after February 1, 2026. Such sequels are not listed, and I don't necessarily endorse them.

Servers

Typical, long-time servers that many people played on — or those explicitly intended for more niche things. All of them are the base for the rest of things on the page, as that's where players play.

All servers had all addons installed, and unless specified otherwise, all modes were available (but then, people were typically racing).

Name Open Description
Frankfurt One always Just a server with no additional restrictions. Has 2 bots if there are few humans. I liked it more than Frankfurt Zero.
Frankfurt Zero always Just a server with no additional restrictions. Has 2 bots if there are few humans. I liked it less than Frankfurt One.
Frankfurt Two always You had to install many addons (30, 75, 175) to play, so that random strangers can't join and auto-remove addons. In a way, an elite server.
Frankfurt Soccer always Soccer only, no additional restrictions.
Frankfurt Soccer Two always Soccer only, with some addons (15, 25) required.
Frankfurt Speedrun always Race alone, set times, record replays, the others watch. I could start more servers if needed. Likely, the source of "STK players cannot read".
Frankfurt Battle always For those three people who would rather play FFA and CTF always. (I probably would but I like all modes).
Team GP of Frankfurt every 2nd Fri Sat 11 games per GP, 2–6 colored teams, win as a team or individually. You are punished if you hit teammates, and someone is very likely recording!
Frankfurt Tournament during matches Scheduled soccer matches of tournament teams, others can watch and record/stream. Not necessarily happened on FF, though.
Frankfurt 2.x always Another server for the "modern version¹ testing" that had all tracks, less lag, and was open enough to teach non-Discord people how to play it.
Frankfurt Tyredeg always A server for Tyre Mod Edition, which was based on FF code in some way.
Frankfurt 100 replaced The server with fixed lap number of 100. Was naturally replaced with Frankfurt Speedrun, as it could do that too.
Frankfurt Chat rarely It's nice to talk sometimes, and some people did. Some others, however, did not want "a lot of chat seerverws".

  1. I do not endorse it under any name.

Additional servers could be running for special purposes like competitions.

Code

All the servers ran the custom fork of code, developed upsteam, but also developed and maintained by myself, sometimes to an extent the upstream repository was afraid to go to.

Code maintenance was an important part of the processes — it was ran on the servers, and the servers are the base of all competitions and games. This code was also ran on multiple other online servers, as they deemed that the advantages of new features are worth the possible complications with maintenance. It's a great feeling when even strangers you don't know do that.

The code is far from perfect, especially when looking from the height of experience (which I also gained from STK by developing this fork). But it really added a lot of things that the standard code can't dream of, and dreamed of more things.

For a big (but still non-exhaustive!) list of things introduced in the fork, use this link.

Record tables

Introduced in March 2020, they show the largest — as of 2026, by a big margin — set of times. Unlike for the times set offline, the verification is automatic and is performed by the server.

Table Links Description
General records table Main table Top-30 times and players on all FF servers
Standard speedrun rankings Forward The most popular table, especially active in 2020
Reverse Another one
Additional tables Ranked addons The set of (mostly old) tracks from USA Ranked server
Ranked reverse The reverse version
mimiz table Set times on skindoormimiz' tracks in Normal race
Crystal table Set times on CrystalDaEevee's tracks in Normal race
Speed Dreams Set times on Speed Dreams ports in Normal race
Extreme table Tracks by julian. Few checklines, hard to finish

Competitions

Competitions are a nice and fun way to compare skills, to prove your best, especially challenging when the rules differ from what everyone is used to in casual gameplay.

Long events

A typical long event would last a few weeks, or more likely around a month.

Short events and Grands Prix

These events would fit within a day easily, be it one long game, or a series of games. Or sometimes the server was present for a longer time, but the attention was there for a short while. A non-exhaustive list of examples:

Name # Description
Coconut Mall 100 x1 The first public hundred-lap race
Halloween Unknown Physics
Server (HUPS)
x2 Slightly different physics
April Fools GP x2 Invididual GP with slightly different physics
Triple Items GP x1 All items were triple on the 3rd anniversary of FF in Nov 2022
GP di mimiz x4 All tracks by mimiz in their order, on Subday too
RV Mini Enduro Cup x2 Grand Prix on a set of RV ports
LOLAND LANKED x1 A server to help testing the ranking code edits, with huge numbers

Grands Prix were usually arranged every two weeks, on Friday and Saturday, during European evening. Typically, one GP lasted 11 games. When the GP ended and there were enough willing people, after a break another GP was going to start.

Friday GPs were played with custom powerups configuration, and addon requirements could vary, so the rules were rotating over weeks. A typical 12-week schedule was as follows:

Week # Friday GP Saturday GP Addon requirements
2/12 random powerups standard powerups 100 addons required
4/12 rebalanced powerups standard powerups 100 addons required
6/12 random powerups standard powerups
8/12 rebalanced powerups standard powerups 100 addons required
10/12 random powerups standard powerups 100 addons required
12/12 rebalanced powerups standard powerups

If a whole GP week, with Friday and Saturday GPs (usually at least 2, sometimes up to 5-7 per day), sometimes also with an exceptional Sunday GP day, was denoted by a dot, the GPs hosted between March 2021 and January 2026 would look somewhat like this:

Soccer Tournaments

Long soccer events that required player registration in advance, forming fixed teams, scheduling and moving matches, present referees, and a lot of other complicated stuff.

Videos

I was making videos about what I enjoyed (or, sometimes, not) in the game, on this channel. I guess people mostly liked it. Some of my playlists I like contain best moments, event-related videos and educational videos.

Other people have also been making videos on the competitions from this page, most notably RowdyJoe, skindoormimiz, and CrystalDaEevee who recorded or streamed a lot of them.

The invisible part

Every event requires only a running server with specific configuration files, players who are willing to play, a person who will check out the event once in a while, and maybe a web page with some kind of results. Addons just require Blender, its scripts, and basic skill. Videos only need a YouTube account and OBS. Right?

Absolutely wrong! As soon as you start to care, it appears that in order for everything to work properly and well, a lot of things have to be done — the design that appeals to players, the server code that allows a certain competition format, an additional script that shows results right now and not in 2 days, a readable page of rules to reduce questions, a ranking system that actually works — to rate by skill and not by loyalty to the server, and so on.

Those things are necessary, but the effort needed for them, as always, remains largely unnoticed. Above all, you have to enjoy the process — and that should compensate for the patience you have to put. I enjoyed it very much, and therefore put enough effort to make lots of things listed on this page (and this page itself) possible, even if most of those things are literally impossible to do with standard code of game as of February 2026.

Another thing that is usually ignored is helping the community itself. While the help doesn't always result in a wall of useful text, one of things that appeared as a result is the list of tracks broken checklines. Use it if needed.

Acknowledgements

I'd like to thank every person who enjoyed the game. I would like to thank even more all the people who enjoyed the game so much that they have put effort to create things in it, or even helped others.

Regarding the items listed on this page, I also want to thank specifically the people listed below for their help. In lexicographical order:

The contributions, of course, were not limited to the above. Thank you!
